Prague is a city people come to for history, architecture, views and beer. But in recent years it has also become a city where you can drink very good coffee. Not just something quick by a square, but really well — in stylish cafés, with speciality coffee, good food and an atmosphere that sometimes makes it worth changing the whole plan for the day.

There’s just one catch. Finding a café in Prague isn’t the problem. The goal is finding the right one.

Not the best. The right one.

Sometimes you want breakfast. Sometimes a place where you can sit for a while with your laptop. Sometimes a café that looks good in photos. And sometimes you just need coffee, because after three hours of walking on cobbles you’re starting to quietly hate the whole historic centre.

And that’s exactly the difference. You’re not always looking for the best café in Prague. You’re looking for the café that fits a particular moment.

Prague has also learned to go out for breakfast. Especially at weekends some places are full from early morning, you wait for a table, and popular cafés can be busier than a tram at rush hour. Elsewhere it’s pleasant to sit longer, work, read or just plan your next route through the city.

That’s why it pays to know where to go — and above all when. Because a good café isn’t just about what’s in your cup. It’s also about where you sit, what you see around you and what piece of Prague you take away from that day.
